Drapée is a material experiment with concrete and porcelain.
The design is based on the idea to create volumes and structures by gathering and draping using the old sewing technique smoking. The chosen material, the Ultra High Performance Concrete Quantz, can be used very thin-walled.
Maxing out technical possibilities and playing with opposites were the intentions: Appearing the concrete fragile and solid at the same time as well as using the new method to fold concrete. The gentle structure of the lace as microstructure seems also contrastive with the “strong” concrete.
The project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Markus Holzbach.
